Fixing Missed Notifications and Incoming Calls (iOS)

This guide explains how to identify and resolve issues with missed push notifications or incoming call alerts in the Smarter Contact app on iOS devices.

Even if you’ve enabled notifications inside Smarter Contact, you may still miss them because your device’s system settings silently block them.

To ensure you receive all alerts, verify your settings inside the app and at the OS level.

Start with in-app settings, then check system permissions, and finally run a test scenario to confirm everything works.

Why notifications matter 📲

Proper notification setup ensures you don’t miss important business opportunities, such as:
  • Instant alerts when contacts respond to SMS campaigns
  • Real-time incoming call alerts from leads
  • Campaign updates and scheduled reminders

How iOS manages notifications ⚙️

iOS applies strict controls over alerts:
  • One-time permission request: You must grant notification access only once.
  • Manual re-enabled: If denied, you have to turn notifications back on in Settings.
  • Focus modes: These can block alerts even if permissions are granted.
  • Apple Intelligence: iOS 18+ can filter notifications automatically based on priority.

Configure in-app notification settings 🔔

Option 1:
  1. Open Smarter Contact
  2. Tap your profile icon in the top corner
  3. Go to Notifications for push alerts and Call Settings for incoming calls
  4. Enable your preferred options
Option 2:
  1. Open the Notification Center page
  2. Tap the gear icon next to your profile avatar
  3. 3. Turn on the push notification options you want
Important: For label-based notifications, ensure at least one label is selected in the app — contacts with those labels will trigger alerts.

Enable iOS system permissions 🤖

Check notification permissions:
  1. Go to Settings > Notifications > Smarter Contact
  2. Make sure Allow Notifications is toggled on (green)
  3. Enable:
  •    Lock Screen
  •    Notification Center
  •    Banners (set to Persistent is recommended)
  •    Sounds
  •    Badges
Allow background refresh:
Settings > General > Background App Refresh > turn on > select Wi-Fi & Cellular Data.

Cellular data access:
Settings > Cellular > find Smarter Contact > turn on.

Check Focus modes and special features 🧘

Focus modes (like Do Not Disturb, Sleep, Work) can block notifications.

To review:
  1. 1. Go to Settings > Focus.
  2. 2. For each mode active (e.g., Sleep), tap it .
  3. 3. Tap Apps under Allowed Notifications and add Smarter Contact as an allowed app.

iOS 18+ feature:
  • Reduce interruptions: Settings > Focus > Reduce interruptions > Apps > add Smarter Contact to always allow notifications.
  • Priority notifications: Settings > Notifications > Apple Intelligence > turn off Priority notifications or ensure Smarter Contact is set to high priority.
  • Notification summaries: Settings > Notifications > Scheduled summary. If enabled, ensure Smarter Contact is excluded or disable summaries for immediate alerts.

Additional iOS settings to verify ☑️

  • Screen time limits: Settings > Screen Time > App limits. Remove or extend limits for Smarter Contact.
  • Low Power Mode: Settings > Battery > switch off during troubleshooting.
  • VPNs: If you're using a VPN, temporarily disable it, as some VPN apps block notification servers.

Common questions❓

  • Why aren’t I receiving alerts when contacts reply?
You need to enable label notifications: turn on Labels in app settings and select labels that should trigger alerts. Contacts must also have correct labels assigned.
  • Why can’t I re-ask for permission after denying?
iOS restricts apps to one permission request, so if you initially denied, you must turn notifications back on manually in Settings.
  • Do notifications work in Focus mode?
Only if Smarter Contact is added to the Allowed Apps list for each active Focus mode.
  • Notifications are delayed on iPhone 15 Pro?
Check Priority notifications and Notification summaries in the Focus and Notification settings.
  • Will notifications appear on Apple Watch?
Yes, if your iPhone receives the alert, it will be mirrored to your Apple Watch — check Watch App > Notifications > Smarter Contact.
