Labels

Labels are how you categorize your contacts and conversations in Smarter Contact — think of them as tags that bring order and visibility to your account. Set up a few that match how you work, apply them across your contacts and conversations, then filter by them to pull up exactly the leads you're after in seconds.

Set up and manage your labels

Before you can label anything, set your labels up in Settings:

  1. Open Account Settings.
  2. Select the Settings tab in the left panel.
  3. Turn on the Edit Label Settings toggle.

With the toggle on, you can:

  • Add a new label — type it into the Input new label field.
  • Edit, delete, or set the color of any existing label.
  • Set a default label that's automatically applied to every incoming conversation.

When you're done, switch the toggle off to tidy up your settings view. Hiding the settings doesn't change how your labels work — it only cleans up what you see.

💡 Pro tip — Give each label its own color. A quick glance at your Messenger or Contacts list tells you what's what without reading a single word.

Apply labels to your contacts and conversations

Once your labels exist, there are a few ways to put them to work.

From the Contacts page

  1. Go to the Contacts page.
  2. Select the contact you want to label.
  3. Scroll to the Labels field in the Info tab.
  4. Choose the labels you want from the dropdown.

From the Messenger page

  1. Go to the Messenger page.
  2. Open the conversation.
  3. Scroll to the Labels field in the Info tab.
  4. Choose the labels you want from the dropdown.

Automatically with campaign rules

Let your campaigns do the labeling for you:

  1. Go to the Campaigns page and create a new campaign.
  2. Enable Rules for the message.
  3. Under Add a label to this contact, choose the label to apply to anyone who matches the rule — you can create or edit labels right here, too.
  4. The label is added automatically as soon as the rule is triggered.

💡 Pro tip — Set a default label (in Settings) to auto-tag every new incoming conversation. It's an easy way to triage fresh leads before you've even opened them.

Filter by labels to focus your view

Labels really pay off when you use them to filter. You can narrow your view on two pages:

  • Messenger — select the labels you want from the "Filters" button.

  • Contacts — click All Labels and choose the ones you want.

Either way, you'll instantly see only the contacts or conversations that carry those labels.
