Recreating a Campaign

Start Clean Without Starting Over

Sometimes a campaign needs a reset — a sending number gets blocked, a template needs fixing, or you just want to try a new angle. Whatever the reason, you don't have to leave your unsent contacts behind. Smarter Contact lets you export them in seconds and relaunch with a fresh list and fresh numbers.

When to Recreate a Campaign

Common reasons:

  • One or more of your sending numbers have been blocked by a carrier.
  • You spotted an issue in your message template after launch.
  • You want to retest with a different strategy, audience, or schedule.
  • Delivery rates have dropped, and you want a clean slate.

⚠️ When a phone number gets blocked: Sometimes a sending number gets blocked by a carrier and stops delivering — even if your campaign still shows as "Approved" with a 0% block rate. When that happens, every text from that number silently fails. The fix is simple: swap to fresh numbers. It's the number that's blocked, not your account.

How to Recreate Your Campaign

The flow takes about 5 minutes.

  1. Pause your campaign (if needed). If your campaign is still active, head to the Campaigns tab, open it, and click Pause. If it's already stopped or finished, you can skip straight to the next step.
  2. Push your unsent contacts to a new group. Open the campaign, click the three dots (•••) in the top-right corner, select Push to group, and choose Unsent. A new contact group is created with every contact the original campaign didn't reach.
  3. (Optional) Purchase fresh phone numbers. If a sending number has been blocked, head to the Phone Setup page and purchase replacements before you launch.
  4. Push the group to a new campaign. Open your new contact group, click Push to campaign, set up your campaign (template, fresh numbers, schedule), and launch.
  5. Delete the original campaign. Once your new campaign is running, delete the old one. The system automatically prorates any unsent SMS credits back to your balance, and any healthy phone numbers tied to that campaign are released so you can reuse them.

That's it. Your fresh campaign picks up exactly where the old one left off — clean list, clean numbers.

⚠️ Important: Don't reuse a phone number that's been fully blocked — even if it still appears active in your dashboard. Always launch your new campaign with fresh numbers.

What's Next?

Rotating numbers is a normal part of running high-volume messaging — fresh numbers deliver fine. If you want to get ahead of future blocks, build periodic number rotation into your regular campaign hygiene.
